How the Monsanto Protection Act snuck into law | NODISINFO

Slipped into the Agricultural Appropriations Bill, which passed through
Congress last week, was a small provision that’s a big deal for Monsanto
and its opponents. The provision protects genetically modified seeds
from litigation in the face of health risks and has thus been dubbed the
“Monsanto Protection Act” by activists who oppose the biotech giant.
President Barack Obama signed the spending bill, including the
provision, into law on Tuesday.

The Aquarian Conspiracy

The Aquarian Conspiracy

After being organized in New York by a small group concerned with pollution and smog, the first Earth Day took place on April 22, 1970. Activities around the country included car "funerals," traffic blockades and clean-up programs. On Earth Day, April 22, 1970, Norman Cousins (CFR), the longtime president of the United World Federalists (later the World Federalist Association), proclaimed, "Humanity needs world order. The fully sovereign nation is incapable of dealing with the poisoning of the environment . . . The management of the planet . . . requires a world government." The UNESCO Biosphere Conference and ecological activism produced the first Earth Day in 1971. Both Earth day and the beginning of the Army-McCarthy hearings share the date April 22 (Lenin's birthday).

LOST: what were its purposes? Mind control certainly. Creation of a syncretic cult... Training the media controlled zombies...

During the radical 1960s, the late Leary and Richard Alpert did extensive research on LSD and other psychedelic elements—in collaboration with Aldous Huxley, Allen Ginsberg and others. The pair escaped to a mansion in upstate New York. While Leary continued to ride naked on horses, Richard Alpert, after six years or so of getting high, went to India in 1967 and met his spiritual teacher—Neem Karoli Baba. There he met a 23-year-old man named Bhagwan Dass. Eventually, after fasting, yoga and meditation, Alpert was introduced to Dass' s guru—Maharaji. He returned to the U.S. with a new name—Baba Ram Dass ("servant of God") and wrote Be Here Now. He then began teaching Kali-worship (goddess of thieves) to Harvard students. When he became Ram Dass, he forsook his Jewish upbringing and was estranged from his family. His never-named father was a wealthy lawyer, President of the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad and founder of Brandeis University. The recently sick Ram Dass is said to be known and loved all over the world as the self-described "HinJew." Dismissed from Harvard with Leary in 1963, Dass was involved with the Zihuatanejo Project, the IFIF (The International Foundation for Internal Freedom) and the Castalia Organization at Millbrook, all of which were attempts to realize a psychedelic utopia as presented in Island by Aldous Huxley, and Glass Bead Game by Herrman Hesse.

ABRAXAS (properly: Abrasax)

Abrasax became corrupted euphonically and through imperfect transliteration to Abraxas.

Sanskrit:

Abhra / Abra - CLOUD

Sakh - EMBRACE or PERVADE

Sakhatha - CHARIOT or WAGON

Hence Abrasax: CLOUD CHARIOT / COMET

Serpentine legs of the anguipedal daimon - the streamers of a comet?

Rooster or lion head- the corona or indistinct head of a comet?

Perhaps more simply, Abrasax is a cloud chariot, luminous heavenly body or UFO...

As an embracing cloud or cloud being, it is somewhat appropriat for those who see Abrasax as the Prime Entity from which Mind came, and from which "lesser" gods devolved.

Just as certain supposedly mysterious glyphs within Ancient Egyptian syllabaries are actually nothing more than medically accurate and very sophisticated maps of the pineal gland and brain stem, so the Abrasax form and associated stars can be mapped to the human body. This doesn't make its occult learning correct; it merely directs our thinking to the type of conditioning and the attempt to control our higher perceptual powers that is involved in the gnostic propaganda at work.

In the family tree of the Daimons such as Hypnos and Thanatos, brothers Sleep and Death, perhaps Abrasax is the mystically unnamed ithyphallic or omniphallic father-daimon who mated with Old Night to produce the daimon generations? Or is Abrasax the Aberra-Stone- the Lapis Exilis allowing Old Night to make her spawn parthenogenically? StumbleUpon

IF THE NEW AGE RELIGION WERE TO BE CAPSULIZED INTO 7 TEACHINGS IT COULD BE REDUCED TO THE FOLLOWING 7 IDENTIFYING BELIEFS

IF THE NEW AGE RELIGION WERE TO BE CAPSULIZED INTO 7 TEACHINGS IT COULD BE REDUCED TO THE FOLLOWING 7 IDENTIFYING BELIEFS

1. God is impersonal.

2. Christ is not Almighty God, but a good teacher.

3. Jesus is but one of many Christs.

4. Sin and evil do not exist.

5. Man should seek instruction from the spirit world.

6. All religious teachings are of merit, except those that are Christian and believe in absolute truth. Therefore the religious views of Egypt, Babylon, India and the Aztecs are held to be of value for us today.

7. Man can be a god.

***

1. God is PERSONAL, and as Andrew Klavan has demonstrated, anybody can take a simple test- pray each day for thirty days and see if a prayer is answered. The only requirement is that the prayer is genuine and made properly. Any atheist with free will and any sort of intellect can attempt this thirty day test emprically and scientifically. Oddly, virtually no atheist is prepared to honestly pray, even though according to their belief system the prayer must be pointless...

2. This New Age attack on the godhood of Jesus is particularly nonsensical. Jesus is "Christ" because "Christening" is annointing. The New Age devil cults attack not "Jesus" but "Christ"-- they are attacking the title not the man, which seems a subtle point but nevertheless-- only a demon or devil would care.

3. See 2.

4. To "sin" is to "fall short" of a spiritual goal. In one simple claim, this exposes all New Age beliefs as an unholy melange of Frankfurt School moral relativism and hypocrisy even in their own twaddle pseudo-spiritual terms. If evil doesn't exist, neither does good- a zen concept, but not what they mean. By stressing that evil doesn't exist what they really want to say is that "do as thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law" - Aleister Crowley satanism redux.

5. demonic possession / UFO experiences for all! huzzah!

6. Christianity is singled out again. How odd. Although they have it in for Islam and Judaism too, don't worry.  Also pride of place is given- just as in the EU conspiracy, all magic cults, all devil cults and all magical orders- to Ancient Egypt and Babylon. Like the One Ring in Lord of the Rings, the same evil force keeps resonating no matter the outer disguise.

7. Man can be a god- a message as old as Eden and as recent as Ashtar of the Star Command. But hold on- New Agers deny godhood to God... but somehow this nonexistent state of being is available to all humans? But... God is goodness, right? But there isn't any good or evil? So what kind of "God" would we end up being? The kind with horns and an upside down pentacle on its forehead perhaps? StumbleUpon

Hegelian dance steps to the inevitable world war

1. destroy the cohesive forces of the dominant civilisation:

(a) create moral, cultural and sexual relativism. If nothing can be definitive and if there is no objective scale with which to measure superiority, pap, crap, trash and subnormality will infest the dominant civilisation and destroy it from within.

(b) destroy maleness, ie remove the positivity, sexual distinctiveness, desire to kill, win and defend and the morality of the male sex. if possible through science literally blur maleness into femaleness or some monstrous blending of the two.

2. create a powerful albeit fictional enemy of an alien and parasitic religious, racial and cultural nature.

(a) jews having been used for this purpose in the nineteenth century with great success, replicate the jewish-socialist construct using another semitic subrace.

(b) islam having even more overtly negative traits than nineteenth century caricatures of judaism, insert large enclaves and ghettoes of islamics into totally alien and inappropriate settings- for example ancient crusader civilisations such as England and France.

(c) destroy social cohesion to insure that the naturally parasitic nature of primitives from backward countries will encourage them to infest and paralyse civilised functions such as law, politics and peaceful local life relying on mutual respect.

3. create an overarching alien warfighting enemy which, on paper, is roughly equal or preferably superior to western civilisation.

(a) China is perfect for this as just as in the cases of soviet russia and hitlerian germany, wall street money funnelled to China for America to borrow back not only creates a toxic feedback system it also creates enormous resentment in the rump civilisation of the USA.

4. engineer financial collapse.

5. encourage allegedly radical, but actually totally natural and understandable, nationalist and localist movements. All such movements of course are actually started or controlled by DIA / CIA / DISC / MI6.

6. Using the lapdog media aka the mighty wurlitzer, simply create false history on a daily basis by suppressing the truth and publishing lies.

(a) the unanticipated outbreak of the truth on the internet will require severe and ruthless permanent control. Simply creating controlled opposition is not enough; and there is no guarantee that a new monastic order will not spring up, an internet freemasonry which will communicate in secret truth that the controllers have destroyed or consigned to the memory holes.

7. co-opt the major Christian "brand", catholicism.

8. create famine.

9. create new plagues and release them.

10. in one final false flag event, preferably nuclear due to its shock value, kill no less than 10,000 people. Preferably, double the real casualty number of 911, and kill upwards of 28,000 people.

11. introduce the Rule of 10 based in the UN Building, New York, and begin making public the black stone meeting room at the UN, the real controllers, and the overtly Ba'Hai and Sufi like world religion using the approval of the last pope and the dalai lama. Naturally there will be revolt at this point; but it will be far, far too late.

12. Give the world the leader that the lapdog media tells us we are crying out for.

13. Watch all kings bend their knee in obeisance to this coming ruler. StumbleUpon

An Evil Magician

There was an evil magician. He lived deep in the mountains and the forests, and he had thousands of sheep. But the problem was that the sheep were afraid of the magician because every day the sheep were seeing that one of them was being killed for his breakfast, another was being killed for his lunch. So they ran away from the magician's ranch and it was a difficult job to find them in the vast forest. Being a magician, he used magic.

He hypnotized all the sheep and suggested to them first of all that they were immortal and that no harm was being done to them when they were skinned, that, on the contrary, it would be very good for them and even pleasant; secondly he suggested that the magician was a good master who loved his flock so much that he was ready to do anything in the world for them; and in the third place he suggested to them that if anything at all were going to happen to them it was not going to happen just then, at any rate not that day, and therefore they had no need to think about it.

He then told different sheep...to some, "You are a man, you need not be afraid. It is only the sheep who are going to be killed and eaten, not you. You are a man just like I am." Some other sheep were told, "You are a lion -- only sheep are afraid. They escape, they are cowards. You are a lion; you would prefer to die than to run away. You don't belong to these sheep. So when they are killed it is not your problem. They are meant to be killed, but you are the most loved of my friends in this forest." In this way, he told every sheep different stories, and from the second day, the sheep stopped running away from the house.

They still saw other sheep being killed, butchered, but it was not their concern. Somebody was a lion, somebody was a tiger, somebody was a man, somebody was a magician and so forth. Nobody was a sheep except the one who was being killed. This way, without keeping servants, he managed thousands of sheep. They would go into the forest for their food, for their water, and they would come back home, believing always one thing: "It is some sheep who is going to be killed, not you. You don't belong to the sheep. You are a lion -- respected, honored, a friend of the great magician." The magician's problems were solved and the sheep never ran away again.'

Political Turmoil: The Cthulhu Chick Tract

cct16
This is The Cthulhu Chick Tract if you are not familiar with what this is, let me explain.  This is a PARODY of work by a very famous ultra conservative Christian Cartoonist, famous for his religious pamphlets or tracts.  His name is Jack Chick.  As you can see by his "propaganda" he spews a fundamentalist Christian hatred for everything from Catholicism and Islam to Evolution and Homosexuality.  The cartoon has been threatened by legal action, but you know you me.  If I am going to publish the Mohammed Cartoons, I am going to post this.  This is for all the Sprite and Cut and Paste webcomics of the world!  Enjoy, and see you in court, I have the ACLU on my side!

The star that heralds Maitreya’s emergence

“In the very near future, people everywhere will have the opportunity to witness an extraordinary and significant sign, the like of which has been manifested only once before, at the birth of Jesus. Then, according to Christian teaching, a star appeared in the heavens and led three wise men from the East to the birthplace of Jesus. Soon, once again, a star-like luminary of brilliant power will be seen around the world.” (Benjamin Creme’s Master, ‘Maitreya’s first interview’, SI Jan/Feb 2009)
On 12 December 2008 Share International distributed a news release announcing that in the very near future a large, bright star would appear in the sky visible throughout the world, night and day, heralding the imminent appearance of Maitreya in His first interview on a major US television programme. Since early January 2009 sightings of the star have been reported all over the world and hundreds of sightings have been sent to Share International. We include a selection of the latest reports from the media, Share International readers, and sightings from YouTube. All are genuine sightings confirmed by Benjamin Creme’s Master to be the ‘star’.

a green light in the sky, but it was
too close to be a star. It was moving
side-to-side and hovering, like
nothing I have ever seen before –
it was a green glowing diamond shaped
object, about 100 feet above us,
floating”. WPTV, a local television

was described as being a luminous
blue that changed to red from time

Chengdu Buddhist Association,
pronounced it a “Heavenly Body”

“There seems to be a mass of UFO

Dear Editor,
A few nights ago I noticed an incredibly
bright object hovering in the sky, not
far from the moon. It didn’t dawn on me
until later that I might be witnessing
the ‘star’. For the past three nights,
I have seen the same object in the sky,
and I have taken pictures and filmed it.
After reviewing my photos, I realize
now that the object has moved a fair
amount since the first time I saw it.

Interestingly, about a week ago, I heard
that a friend had ‘called the star’
and had then seen it. So, with my mind
I politely invited the ‘star’ to visit.
Is it the ‘star’ that I’m seeing?

it was the ‘star’.)

“At first glance, it looked like an
abnormally large star, but very bright.
When you actually looked close you
could see some kind of pulsating
lights on the top of it. Like a
strobe light with red blue and
green flashes,” says the witness.

Bohemian Grove

Bohemian Grove Fact Sheet

What is the Bohemian Grove? The Bohemian Grove is a 2700 acre redwood forest, located in Monte Rio, CA. It contains accommodation for 2000 people to "camp" in luxury. It is owned by the Bohemian Club.

What is the Bohemian Club? The Bohemian Club is a private. all male club, which is headquartered in the Bohemian building in San Francisco. It was formed in 1872 by men who sought shelter from the frontier culture (or lack of culture).

Who are the present members? The Club has evolved into an association of rich and powerful men, mostly of this country (there are similar organizations in other countries). Some artists are allowed to join (often at reduced rates), because of their social status and entertainment value. The membership list has included every Republican U.S. president (as well as some Democrats) since 1923, many cabinet officials, and director; & CEO's of large corporations, including major financial institutions.

What industries are represented among the members? Major military contractors, oil companies, banks (including the Federal Reserve), utilities (including nuclear power), and national media (broadcast and print) have high-ranking officials as club members or guests. Many members are, or have been, on the board of directors of several of these corporations. You should note that most of the above industries depend heavily on a relationship with government for their profitability.

The members stay in different camps at the Grove, which have varying status levels. Members & frequent guests of the most prestigious camp (Mandalay) include: Henry Kissinger, George Shultz, S. D. Bechtel, Jr., Thomas Watson Jr. (IBM), Phillip Hawley (B of A), William Casey (CIA). and Ralph Bailey (Dupont). George Bush resides in a less prestigious camp (Hillbillies) with A. W. Clausen (World Bank), Walter Cronkite, and William F. Buckley.

What activities take place at the grove? The grove is the site of a two week retreat every July (as well as other smaller get-togethers throughout the year). At these retreats, the members commune with nature in a truly original way. They drink heavily from morning through the night, bask in their freedom to urinate on the redwoods, and perform pagan rituals (including the "Cremation of Care", in which the members wearing red-hooded robes, cremate a coffin effigy of "Dull Care" at the base of a 40 foot owl altar). Some (20%) engage in homosexual activity (but few of them support gay rights, sex education for non-elite children or AIDS research). They watch (and participate in) plays and comedy shows in which women are portrayed by male actors. Although women are not allowed in the Grove, members often leave at night to enjoy the company of the many prostitutes who come from around the world for this event. Is any of this hard to believe? Employees of the Grove have said that no verbal description can accurately portray the bizarre behavior of the Grove's inhabitants.

Besides this type of merriment. the annual gathering serves as an informational clearing house for the elite. The most powerful men in the country do their "networking" here, despite the Grove's motto "weaving spiders come not here" (don't do business in the Grove). At these gatherings men representing the government, military-industrial, and financial sectors meet and make major policy decisions. The Manhattan project, which produced the first atomic bombs, was conceived at the Grove in 1942. Other decisions made at the Grove include who our presidential candidates will be. There are speeches, known as "Lakeside Talks", wherein high-ranking officials disseminate information which is not available to the public-at-large.

What are the topics of discussion at the Lakeside Talks? Mass Mind Control is central.

What's not right about this? When powerful people work together, they become even more powerful. The Grove membership is wealthy, and becoming more so, while the middle class is steadily becoming poorer. This close-knit group determines whether prices rise or fall (by their control of the banking system, money supply, and markets), and they make money whichever way markets fluctuate. They determine what our rights are and which laws have effect, by appointing judges. They decide who our highest officials shall be by consensus among themselves, and then selling candidates to us via the media which they own. Important issues and facts are omitted from discussion in the press, or slanted to suit their goals, but they are discussed frankly at the Grove. Is there true democracy when so much power is concentrated in so few hands? Is there any real difference between the public and private sectors when cabinet members come from the boardrooms of large corporations? Is the spending of billions on weapons, which are by consensus no longer needed, really the will of the people? Or is it the will of General Electric, General Dynamics, and the other weapons contractors represented at the Grove?

What can I do to make a difference? Educate yourself about the Grove and it's inhabitants, and the true nature of the power structure in the world. Then educate your friends. Since most major newspapers and broadcast stations are owned by "insiders", be wary of everything you hear in the press. If you can, participate in protest activities during the July retreat.

How do I get more information about the Grove? Send a note to: Bohemian Grove Action Network, P.O. Box 296, Occidental CA 95465. A $5 donation to cover printing and mailing costs is requested.

But the real question is, does it come with its own Priory?

Green Dragon masons staged the original Tea Party, due to the disruption by the English imperial government of their smuggling operations. One wonders what exactly is the story behind the modern tea party- although filled with many loyal patriots, those who have created it and tried to control it certainly intended something specific for it. And not something good.

Then there's SION.

Its apparent aim is somewhat admirable, although a basically jewish organisation is once again coopting non-jews to form a stormtrooper battalion for them. There is a need to put islam back in its box, mainly because as has been factually established the EUrocrats and their fellow puppetmasters elsewhere intend to breed "Europo-Negroids" "similar to Ancient Egypt" as their slave race underclass, to be ruled over by an increasingly overt power elite.

To see the illuminati go from the boogeyman of the fringe writers of the early 1970s to being a confirmed species in the 2010s certainly gives on pause for thought.

Likewise the New World Order meme- and the hideous reality behind it.

The challenge is to avoid not only the more obvious Hegelian dialectic traps but also the onion layers of other traps- especially controlled dissent and apparent freedom fighters who are actually Judas Goats.

They Live is a good place to start. Watch that.

LAM versus the "Grays" from "Zeta Reticuli"

This article isn't for people who accept as factual reality the existence of Zeta Reticuli and its aliens as "described" by the Hills and the mysterious Marjorie Fish.

If one were to seek a reliable witness, it is Crowley and his LAM to which one should turn.

Despite many biographers and Christian groups taking Crowley's Great Beast pronouncements at more than face value, as a scribe and describer of what he witnessed Crowley is admirably on his guard against deception by the entities he encountered.

What this means for the mythology and government coverups of "UFOs" is not difficult to deduce... StumbleUpon

WOTAN by Carl Gustav Jung

Wotan's nature -- one feels that the author is vitally interested in it, that the chord of Wotan is vibrating in him too.

-- Wotan, by Carl Gustav Jung

Essay on WOTAN
by Carl Gustav Jung

Preface to Essays on Contemporary Events

[Originally published as the Vorwort to AUFSATZE ZUR ZEITGESCHICHTE  (Zurich, 1946). Translation by Elizabeth Welsh in ESSAYS ON CONTEMPORARY EVENTS (London, 1947)]

Medical psychotherapy, for practical reasons, has to deal with the whole of the psyche. Therefore, it is bound to come to terms with all those factors, biological as well as social and mental, which have a vital influence on psychic life.
We are living in times of great disruption: political passions are aflame, internal upheavals have brought nations to the brink of chaos, and the very foundations of our Weltanschauung are shattered. This critical state of things has such a tremendous influence on the psychic life of the individual that the doctor must follow its effects with more than usual attention. The storm of events does not sweep down upon him only from the great world outside; he feels the violence of its impact even in the quiet of his consulting-room and in the privacy of the medical consultation. As he has a responsibility towards his patients, he cannot afford to withdraw to the peaceful island of undisturbed scientific work, but must constantly descend into the arena of world events, in order to join in the battle of conflicting passions and opinions. Were he to remain aloof from the tumult, the calamity of his time would reach him only from afar, and his patients' suffering would find neither ear nor understanding. He would be at a loss to know how to talk to him, and to help him out of his isolation. For this reason the psychologist cannot avoid coming to grips with contemporary history, even his very soul shrinks from the political uproar, the lying propaganda, and the jarring speeches of the demagogues. We need not mention his duties as a citizen, which confront him with a similar task. As a physician, he has a higher obligation to humanity in this respect.
From time to time, therefore, I have felt obliged to step beyond the usual bounds of my profession. The experience of the psychologist is of a rather special kind, and it seemed to me that the general public might find it useful to hear his point of view. This was hardly a far-fetched conclusion, for surely the most naive of laymen could not fail to see that many contemporary figures and events were positively asking for psychological elucidation. Were psychopathic symptoms ever more conspicuous than in the contemporary political scene?
It has never been my wish to meddle in the political questions of the day. But in the course of the years I have written a few papers which give my reactions to current events. The present book contains a collection of these occasional essays, all written between 1936 and 1946. It is natural enough that my thoughts should have been especially concerned with Germany, which has been a problem to me ever since the first World War. My statements have evidently led to all manner of misunderstandings, which are chiefly due, no doubt, to the fact that my psychological point of view strikes many people as new and therefore strange. Instead of embarking upon lengthy arguments in an attempt to clear up these misunderstandings, I have found it simpler to collect all the passages in my other writings which deal with the same theme and to put them in an epilogue. The reader will thus be in a position to get a clear picture of the facts for himself.

-- Propheties De Maistre Michel Nostradamus, 1555
When we look back to the time before 1914, we find ourselves living in a world of events which would have been inconceivable before the war. We were even beginning to regard war between civilized nations as a fable, thinking that such an absurdity would become less and less possible on our rational, internationally organized world. And what came after the war was a veritable witches' sabbath. Everywhere fantastic revolutions, violent alterations of the map, reversions in politics to medieval or even antique prototypes, totalitarian states that engulf their neighbours and outdo all previous theocracies in their absolutist claims, persecutions of Christians and Jews, wholesale political murder, and finally we have witnessed a light-hearted piratical raid on a peaceful, half-civilized people.
With such goings on in the wide world it is not in the least surprising that there should be equally curious manifestations on a smaller scale in other spheres. In the realm of philosophy we shall have to wait some time before anyone is able to assess the kind of age we are living in. But in the sphere of religion we can see at once that some very significant things have been happening. We need feel no surprise that in Russia the colourful splendours of the Eastern Orthodox Church have been superseded by the Movement of the Godless -- indeed, one breathed a sigh of relief oneself when one emerged from the haze of an Orthodox church with its multitude of lamps and entered an honest mosque, where the sublime and invisible omnipresence of God was not crowded out by a superfluity of sacred paraphernalia. Tasteless and pitiably unintelligent as it is, and however deplorable the low spiritual level of the "scientific" reaction, it was inevitable that nineteenth-century "scientific" enlightenment should one day dawn in Russia.
But what is more than curious -- indeed, piquant to a degree -- is that an ancient god of storm and frenzy, the long quiescent Wotan, should awake, like an extinct volcano, to new activity, in a civilized country that had long been supposed to have outgrown the Middle Ages. We have seen him come to life in the German Youth Movement, and right at the beginning the blood of several sheep was shed in honour of his resurrection. Armed with rucksack and lute, blond youths, and sometimes girls as well, were to be seen as restless wanderers on every road from the North Cape to Sicily, faithful votaries of the roving god. Later, towards the end of the Weimar Republic, the wandering role was taken over by thousands of unemployed, who were to be met with everywhere on their aimless journeys. By 1933 they wandered no longer, but marched in their hundreds of thousands. The Hitler movement literally brought the whole of Germany to its feet, from five-year-olds to veterans, and produced a spectacle of a nation migrating from one place to another. Wotan the wanderer was on the move. He could be seen, looking rather shamefaced, in the meeting-house of a sect of simple folk in North Germany, disguised as Christ sitting on a white horse. I do not know if these people were aware of Wotan's ancient connection with the figures of Christ and Dionysus, but it is not very probable.
Wotan is a restless wanderer who creates unrest and stirs up strife, now here, now there, and works magic. He was soon changed by Christianity into the devil, and only lived on in fading local traditions as a ghostly hunter who was seen with his retinue, flickering like a will o' the wisp through the stormy night. In the Middle Ages the role of the restless wanderer was taken over by Ahasuerus, the Wandering Jew, which is not a Jewish but a Christian legend. The motif of the wanderer who has not accepted Christ was projected on the Jews, in the same way as we always rediscover our unconscious psychic contents in other people. At any rate the coincidence of anti-Semitism with the reawakening of Wotan is a psychological subtlety that may perhaps be worth mentioning.
The German youths who celebrated the solstice with sheep-sacrifices were not the first to hear the rustling in the primeval forest of the unconsciousness. They were anticipated by Nietzsche, Schuler, Stefan George, and Ludwig Klages. The literary tradition of the Rhineland and the country south of the Main has a classical stamp that cannot easily be got rid of; every interpretation of intoxication and exuberance is apt to be taken back to classical models, to Dionysus, to the puer aeternus and the cosmogonic Eros. No doubt it sounds better to academic ears to interpret these things as Dionysus, but Wotan might be a more correct interpretation. He is the god of storm and frenzy, the unleasher of passions and the lust of battle; moreover he is a superlative magician and artist in illusion who is versed in all secrets of an occult nature.
Nietzsche's case is certainly a peculiar one. He had no knowledge of Germanic literature; he discovered the "cultural Philistine"; and the announcement that "God is dead" led to Zarathustra's meeting with an unknown god in unexpected form, who approached him sometimes as an enemy and sometimes disguised as Zarathustra himself. Zarathustra, too, was a soothsayer, a magician, and the storm-wind:
And like a wind shall I come to blow among them, and with my spirit shall take away the breath of their spirit; thus my future wills it. Truly, a strong wind is Zarathustra to all that are low; and this counsel gives he to his enemies and to all that spit and spew: "Beware of spitting against the wind."
And when Zarathustra dreamed that he was guardian of the graves in the "lone mountain fortress of death," and was making a mighty effort to open the gates, suddenly
A roaring wind tore the gates asunder; whistling, shrieking, and keening, it cast a black coffin before me.
And amid the roaring and whistling and shrieking the coffin burst open and spouted a thousand peals of laughter.
The disciple who interpreted the dream said to Zarathustra:
Are you not yourself the wind with shrill whistling, which bursts open the gates of the fortress of death?
Are you not yourself the coffin filled with life's gay malice and angel-grimaces?
In 1863 or 1864, in his poem TO THE UNKNOWN GOD, Nietzsche had written:
I shall and will know thee, Unknown One,
Who searchest out the depths of my soul,
And blowest through my life like a storm,
Ungraspable, and yet my kinsman!
I shall and will know thee, and serve thee.
Twenty years later, in his MISTRAL SONG, he wrote:
Mistral wind, chaser of clouds,
Killer of gloom, sweeper of the skies,
Raging storm-wind, how I love thee!
And we are not both the first-fruits
Of the same womb, forever predestined
To the same fate?
In the dithyramb known as ARIADNE'S LAMENT, Nietzsche is completely the victim of the hunter-god:
Stretched out, shuddering,
Like a half-dead thing whose feet are warmed,
Shaken by unknown fevers,
Shivering with piercing icy frost arrows,
Hunted by thee, O thought,
Unutterable! Veiled! horrible one!
Thou huntsman behind the cloud.
Struck down by thy lightning bolt,
Thou mocking eye that stares at me from the dark!
Thus I lie.
Writhing, twisting, tormented
With all eternal tortures,
Smitten
By thee, cruel huntsman,
Thou unknown -- God!
This remarkable image of the hunter-god is not a mere dithyrambic figure of speech but is based on an experience which Nietzsche had when he was fifteen years old, at Pforta. It is described in a book by Nietzsche's sister, Elizabeth Foerster-Nietzsche. As he was wandering about in a gloomy wood at night, he was terrified by a "blood-curdling shriek from a neighbouring lunatic asylum," and soon afterwards he came face to face with a huntsman whose "features were wild and uncanny." Setting his whistle to his lips "in a valley surrounded by wild scrub," the huntsman "blew such a shrill blast" that Nietzsche lost consciousness -- but woke up again in Pforta. It was a nightmare. It is significant that in his dream Nietzsche, who in reality intended to go to Eisleben, Luther's town, discussed with the huntsman the question of going instead to "Teutschenthal" (Valley of the Germans). No one with ears can misunderstand the shrill whistling of the storm-god in the nocturnal wood.
Was it really only the classical philologist in Nietzsche that led to the god being called Dionysus instead of Wotan -- or was it perhaps due to his fateful meeting with Wagner?
In his REICH OHNE RAUM, which was first published in 1919, Bruno Goetz saw the secret of coming events in Germany in the form of a very strange vision. I have never forgotten this little book, for it struck me at the time as a forecast of the German weather. It anticipates the conflict between the realm of ideas and life, between Wotan's dual nature as a god of storm and a god of secret musings. Wotan disappeared when his oaks fell and appeared again when the Christian God proved too weak to save Christendom from fratricidal slaughter. When the Holy Father at Rome could only impotently lament before God the fate of the grex segregatus, the one-eyed old hunter, on the edge of the German forest, laughed and saddled Sleipnir.
We are always convinced that the modern world is a reasonable world, basing our opinion on economic, political, and psychological factors. But if we may forget for a moment that we are living in the year of Our Lord 1936, and, laying aside our well-meaning, all-too-human reasonableness, may burden God or the gods with the responsibility for contemporary events instead of man, we would find Wotan quite suitable as a casual hypothesis. In fact, I venture the heretical suggestion that the unfathomable depths of Wotan's character explain more of National Socialism than all three reasonable factors put together. There is no doubt that each of these factors explains an important aspect of what is going on in Germany, but Wotan explains yet more. He is particularly enlightening in regard to a general phenomenon which is so strange to anybody not a German that it remains incomprehensible, even after the deepest reflection.
Perhaps we may sum up this general phenomenon as Ergriffenheit -- a state of being seized or possessed. The term postulates not only an Ergriffener (one who is seized) but, also, an Ergreifer (one who seizes). Wotan is an Ergreifer of men, and, unless one wishes to deify Hitler -- which has indeed actually happened -- he is really the only explanation. It is true that Wotan shares this quality with his cousin Dionysus, but Dionysus seems to have exercised his influence mainly on women. The maenads were a species of female storm-troopers, and, according to mythical reports, were dangerous enough. Wotan confined himself to the berserkers, who found their vocation as the Blackshirts of mythical kings.
A mind that is still childish thinks of the gods as metaphysical entities existing in their own right, or else regards them as playful or superstitious inventions. From either point of view the parallel between Wotan redivivus and the social, political and psychic storm that is shaking Germany might have at least the value of a parable. But since the gods are without doubt personifications of psychic forces, to assert their metaphysical existence is as much an intellectual presumption as the opinion that they could ever be invented. Not that "psychic forces" have anything to do with the conscious mind, fond as we are of playing with the idea that consciousness and psyche are identical. This is only another piece of intellectual presumption. "Psychic forces" have far more to do with the realm of the unconscious. Our mania for rational explanations obviously has its roots in our fear of metaphysics, for the two were always hostile brothers. Hence, anything unexpected that approaches us from the dark realm is regarded either as coming from outside and, therefore, as real, or else as an hallucination and, therefore, not true. The idea that anything could be real or true which does not come from outside has hardly begun to dawn on contemporary man.
For the sake of better understanding and to avoid prejudice, we could of course dispense with the name "Wotan" and speak instead of the furor teutonicus. But we should only be saying the same thing and not as well, for the furor in this case is a mere psychologizing of Wotan and tells us no more than that the Germans are in a state of "fury." We thus lose sight of the most peculiar feature of this whole phenomenon, namely, the dramatic aspect of the Ergreifer and the Ergriffener. The impressive thing about the German phenomenon is that one man, who is obviously "possessed," has infected a whole nation to such an extent that everything is set in motion and has started rolling on its course towards perdition.
It seems to me that Wotan hits the mark as an hypothesis. Apparently he really was only asleep in the Kyffhauser mountain until the ravens called him and announced the break of day. He is a fundamental attribute of the German psyche, an irrational psychic factor which acts on the high pressure of civilization like a cyclone and blows it away. Despite their crankiness, the Wotan-worshippers seem to have judged things more correctly than the worshippers of reason. Apparently everyone had forgotten that Wotan is a Germanic datum of first importance, the truest expression and unsurpassed personification of a fundamental quality that is particularly characteristic of the Germans. Houston Stewart Chamberlain is a symptom which arouses suspicion that other veiled gods may be sleeping elsewhere. The emphasis on the Germanic race -- commonly called "Aryan" -- the Germanic heritage, blood and soil, the Wagalaweia songs, the ride of the Valkyries, Jesus as a blond and blue-eyed hero, the Greek mother of St. Paul, the devil as an international Alberich in Jewish or Masonic guise, the Nordic aurora borealis as the light of civilization, the inferior Mediterranean races -- all this is the indispensable scenery for the drama that is taking place and at the bottom they all mean the same thing: a god has taken possession of the Germans and their house is filled with a "mighty rushing wind." It was soon after Hitler seized power, if I am not mistaken, that a cartoon appeared in PUNCH of a raving berserker tearing himself free from his bonds. A hurricane has broken loose in Germany while we still believe it is fine weather.
Things are comparatively quiet in Switzerland, though occasionally there is a puff of wind from the north or south. Sometimes it has a slightly ominous sound, sometimes it whispers so harmlessly or even idealistically that no one is alarmed. "Let the sleeping dogs lie" -- we manage to get along pretty well with this proverbial wisdom. It is sometimes said that the Swiss are singularly averse to making a problem of themselves. I must rebut this accusation: the Swiss do have their problems, but they would not admit it for anything in the world, even though they see which way the wind is blowing. We thus pay our tribute to the time of storm and stress in Germany, but we never mention it, and this enables us to feel vastly superior.
It is above all the Germans who have an opportunity, perhaps unique in history, to look into their own hearts and to learn what those perils of the soul were from which Christianity tried to rescue mankind. Germany is a land of spiritual catastrophes, where nature never makes more than a pretense of peace with the world-ruling reason. The disturber of the peace is a wind that blows into Europe from Asia's vastness, sweeping in on a wide front from Thrace to the Baltic, scattering the nations before it like dry leaves, or inspiring thoughts that shake the world to its foundations. It is an elemental Dionysus breaking into the Apollonian order. The rouser of this tempest is named Wotan, and we can learn a good deal about him from the political confusion and spiritual upheaval he has caused throughout history. For a more exact investigation of his character, however, we must go back to the age of myths, which did not explain everything in terms of man and his limited capacities, but sought the deeper cause in the psyche and its autonomous powers. Man's earliest intuitions personified these powers. Man's earliest intuitions personified these powers as gods, and described them in the myths with great care and circumstantiality according to their various characters. This could be done the more readily on account of the firmly established primordial types or images which are innate in the unconscious of many races and exercise a direct influence upon them. Because the behavior of a race takes on its specific character from its underlying images, we can speak of an archetype "Wotan." As an autonomous psychic factor, Wotan produces effects in the collective life of a people and thereby reveals his own nature. For Wotan has a peculiar biology of his own, quite apart from the nature of man. It is only from time to time that individuals fall under the irresistible influence of this unconscious factor. When it is quiescent, one is no more aware of the archetype Wotan than of a latent epilepsy. Could the Germans who were adults in 1914 have foreseen what they would be today? Such amazing transformations are the effect of the god of wind, that "bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, nor whither it goeth." It seizes everything in its path and overthrows everything that is not firmly rooted. When the wind blows it shakes everything that is insecure, whether without or within.
Martin Ninck has recently published a monograph which is a most welcome addition to our knowledge of Wotan's nature. The reader need not fear that this book is nothing but a scientific study written with academic aloofness from the subject. Certainly the right to scientific objectivity is fully preserved, and the material has been collected with extraordinary thoroughness and presented in unusually clear form. But, over and above all this, one feels that the author is vitally interested in it, that the chord of Wotan is vibrating in him, too. This is no criticism -- on the contrary, it is one of the chief merits of the book, which without this enthusiasm might easily have degenerated into a tedious catalogue. Ninck sketches a really magnificent portrait of the German archetype Wotan. He describes him in ten chapters, using all the available sources, as the berserker, the god of storm, the wanderer, the warrior, the Wunsch- and Minne-god, the lord of the dead and of the Einherjar, the master of secret knowledge, the magician, and the god of the poets. Neither the Valkyries nor the Fylgja are forgotten, for they form part of the mythological background and fateful significance of Wotan. Ninck's inquiry into the name and its origin is particularly instructive. He shows that Wotan is not only a god of rage and frenzy who embodies the instinctual and emotion aspect of the unconscious. Its intuitive and inspiring side, also, manifests itself in him, for he understands the runes and can interpret fate.
The Romans identified Wotan with Mercury, but his character does not really correspond to any Roman or Greek god, although there are certain resemblances. He is a wanderer like Mercury, for instance, he rules over the dead like Pluto and Kronos, and is connected with Dionysus by his emotional frenzy, particularly in its mantic aspect. It is surprising that Ninck does not mention Hermes, the god of revelation, who as pneuma and nous is associated with the wind. He would be the connecting-link with the Christian pneuma and the miracle of Pentecost. As Poimandres (the shepherd of men), Hermes is an Ergreifer like Wotan. Ninck rightly points out that Dionysus and the other Greek gods always remained under the supreme authority of Zeus, which indicates a fundamental difference between the Greek and the Germanic temperament. Ninck assumes an inner affinity between Wotan and Kronus, and the latter's defeat may perhaps be a sign that the Wotan-archetype was once overcome and split up in prehistoric times. At all events, the Germanic god represents a totality on a very primitive level, a psychological condition in which man's will was almost identical with the god's and entirely at his mercy. But the Greeks had gods who helped man against other gods; indeed, All-Father Zeus himself is not far from the ideal of a benevolent, enlightened despot.
It was not in Wotan's nature to linger on and show signs of old age. He simply disappeared when the times turned against him, and remained invisible for more than a thousand years, working anonymously and indirectly. Archetypes are like riverbeds which dry up when the water deserts them, but which it can find again at any time. An archetype is like an old watercourse along which the water of life has flowed for centuries, digging a deep channel for itself. The longer it has flowed in this channel the more likely it is that sooner or later the water will return to its old bed. The life of the individual as a member of society and particularly as a part of the State may be regulated like a canal, but the life of nations is a great rushing river which is utterly beyond human control, in the hands of One who has always been stronger than men. The League of Nations, which was supposed to possess supranational authority, is regarded by some as a child in need of care and protection, by others as an abortion. Thus, the life of nations rolls on unchecked, without guidance, unconscious of where it is going, like a rock crashing down the side of a hill, until it is stopped by an obstacle stronger than itself. Political events move from one impasse to the next, like a torrent caught in gullies, creeks and marshes. All human control comes to an end when the individual is caught in a mass movement. Then, the archetypes begin to function, as happens, also, in the lives of individuals when they are confronted with situations that cannot be dealt with in any of the familiar ways. But what a so-called Fuhrer does with a mass movement can plainly be seen if we turn our eyes to the north or south of our country.
The ruling archetype does not remain the same forever, as is evident from the temporal limitations that have been set to the hoped-for reign of peace, the "thousand-year Reich." The Mediterranean father-archetype of the just, order-loving, benevolent ruler had been shattered over the whole of northern Europe, as the present fate of the Christian Churches bears witness. Fascism in Italy and the civil war in Spain show that in the south as well the cataclysm has been far greater than one expected. Even the Catholic Church can no longer afford trials of strength.
The nationalist God has attacked Christianity on a broad front. In Russia, he is called technology and science, in Italy, Duce, and in Germany, "German Faith," "German Christianity," or the State. The "German Christians" are a contradiction in terms and would do better to join Hauer's "German Faith Movement." These are decent and well-meaning people who honestly admit their Ergriffenheit and try to come to terms with this new and undeniable fact. They go to an enormous amount of trouble to make it look less alarming by dressing it up in a conciliatory historical garb and giving us consoling glimpses of great figures such as Meister Eckhart, who was, also, a German and, also, ergriffen. In this way the awkward question of who the Ergrefer is is circumvented. He was always "God." But the more Hauer restricts the world-wide sphere of Indo-European culture to the "Nordic" in general and to the Edda in particular, and the more "German" this faith becomes as a manifestation of Ergriffenheit, the more painfully evident it is that the "German" god is the god of the Germans.
One cannot read Hauer's book without emotion, if one regards it as the tragic and really heroic effort of a conscientious scholar who, without knowing how it happened to him, was violently summoned by the inaudible voice of the Ergreifer and is now trying with all his might, and with all his knowledge and ability, to build a bridge between the dark forces of life and the shining world of historical ideas. But what do all the beauties of the past from totally different levels of culture mean to the man of today, when confronted with a living and unfathomable tribal god such as he has never experienced before? They are sucked like dry leaves into the roaring whirlwind, and the rhythmic alliterations of the Edda became inextricably mixed up with Christian mystical texts, German poetry and the wisdom of the Upanishads. Hauer himself is ergriffen by the depths of meaning in the primal words lying at the root of the Germanic languages, to an extent that he certainly never knew before. Hauer the Indologist is not to blame for this, nor yet the Edda; it is rather the fault of kairos -- the present moment in time -- whose name on closer investigation turns out to be Wotan. I would, therefore, advise the German Faith Movement to throw aside their scruples. Intelligent people who will not confuse them with the crude Wotan-worshippers whose faith is a mere pretense. There are people in the German Faith Movement who are intelligent enough not only to believe, but to know, that the god of the Germans is Wotan and not the Christian God. This is a tragic experience and no disgrace. It has always been terrible to fall into the hands of a living god. Yahweh was no exception to this rule, and the Philistines, Edomites, Amorites and the rest, who were outside the Yahweh experience, must certainly have found it exceedingly disagreeable. The Semitic experience of Allah was for a long time an extremely painful affair for the whole of Christendom. We who stand outside judge the Germans far too much, as if they were responsible agents, but perhaps it would be nearer the truth to regard them, also, as victims.
If we apply an admittedly peculiar point of view consistently, we are driven to conclude that Wotan must, in time, reveal not only the restless, violent, stormy side of his character, but, also, his ecstatic and mantic qualities -- a very different aspect of his nature. If this conclusion is correct, National Socialism would not be the last word. Things must be concealed in the background which we cannot imagine at present, but we may expect them to appear in the course of the next few years or decades. Wotan's reawakening is a stepping back into the past; the stream was damned up and has broken into its old channel. But the Obstruction will not last forever; it is rather a reculer pour mieux sauter [to draw back in order to make a better jump], and the water will overleap the obstacle. Then, at last, we shall know what Wotan is saying when he "murmers with Mimir's head."
Fast move the sons of Mim, and fate
Is heard in the note of the Gjallarhorn;
Loud blows Heimdall, the horn is aloft,
In fear quake all who on Hel-roads are.
Yggdrasill shakes and shivers on high
The ancient limbs, and the giant is loose;
Wotan murmurs with Mimir's head
But the kinsman of Surt shall slay him soon.
How fare the gods? how fare the elves?
All Jotunheim groans, the gods are at council;
Loud roar the dwarfs by the doors of stone,
The masters of the rocks: would you know yet more?
Now Garm howls loud before Gnipahellir;
The fetters will burst, and the wolf run free;
Much I do know, and more can see
Of the fate of the gods, the mighty in fight.
From the east comes Hrym with shield held high;
In giant-wrath does the serpent writhe;
O'er the waves he twists, and the tawny eagle
Gnaws corpses screaming; Naglfar is loose.
O'er the sea from the north there sails a ship
With the people of Hel, at the helm stands Loki;
After the wolf do wild men follow,
And with them the brother of Byleist goes.

The Jinn
The activities described on this page are well-known in the Islamic traditions, which ascribe them to a non-human yet earthly species which they term The Jinn.
If we may be permitted to summarize the vast literature on Jinn in a few lines, we might do that as follows:
  • Created of "smokeless fire", far in advance of any human race
  • Largely hostile to humans, who they feel have usurped their ownership of Earth
  • Some may be friendly to humans
  • Largely confined to a non-physical dimension
  • Some can operate on the physical plane, where they can assume any desired form
  • Best assumed extremely dangerous; consorting leads to insanity or death
  • Although best described in the Qur'an, descriptions can be found in other "sacred" literature, under various names
  • ALL descriptions must be handled with great care
  • Activities are thoroughly confounded with reports of UFO and other ET activities
It would be too easy to dismiss all this as a bit of folklore left over from past eras, irrelevant to today's issues and events. We suggest that this would be a serious mistake. In fact, it IS a serious mistake being made at ground level and throughout today's society. To help you better appreciate the situation, we offer here a list of key references to get you started with this topic.
First, the basic Wikipedia introduction: Jinn.
For the current literature, a fine start would be with The Jinn, with special attention to its feature article World's Greatest Hoax.

UFOexperiences: INGO SWANN

UFOexperiences: INGO SWANN

If Ingo Swann is to be believed, and this coming from a man with top secret clearance that in his day briefed and trained officers from the USAF, the Defense Intelligence Agency, INSCOM, and many others too numerous to mention, then there is some truth to the rumors of an otherworldly intelligence working behind the scenes here on Earth. Not only are they already here, according to Swann's testimony from a rare out-of-print book, self-published in 1998, but they are building something on the far side of the moon. And they are not friendly. StumbleUpon

Extra-terrestrial intelligence or terrestrial intelligence agencies?

Extra-terrestrial intelligence or terrestrial intelligence agencies?

Extra-terrestrial intelligence or terrestrial intelligence agencies?
It is trendy to suggest to friends and family that the US government knows more about the UFO phenomenon… or even extra-terrestrial beings. Though entirely speculative, it does not mean that the US government plays no role in the phenomenon whatsoever. There is good evidence that shows that it, either officially or unofficially, has been interested in the UFO phenomenon – and has actively promoted it.
Philip Coppens

At the time of Project Bluebook the government could only confirm that it was interested in the UFO phenomenon. After all, they were the ones in charge of it. But behind the scenes of the official investigation, there were attempts to make contact, not with an alien intelligence, but with the UFO community.

One of the first researchers who warned about the government’s involvement behind the scenes in the UFO community was Jacques Vallee…. Who immediately was accused of circulating disinformation for the CIA (without any supporting evidence for the allegation). George Adamski, the patriarch of the UFO contact phenomenon, would soon confess that his career as “ambassador of the Space brothers” was crafted by four scientists working for the US government. They worked for the Point Loma Naval Electronics Laboratory, near San Diego, and a similar facility near Pasadena. They wanted to lay their hands on photographs of spacecraft moving through space. When Adamski began his career on the lecture circuit, this was with the support of the scientists, as well as a member of the British army. People like Bill Cooper and John Lear, who try to get the attention of every researcher, stating they have the ultimate truth about the phenomenon (though contradicting one another), had and have close connections with the military agencies. Are they therefore confessing for their sins… or are they promoting disinformation which those agencies want to distribute?

Jacques Vallee has chosen for the latter possibility. As he states: “the information they have revealed is time and again identified as either lies or wrong, which is the intention. As such, they bring the entire phenomenon in a heightened state of chaos, which is one of the intentions of the US government.”

“How is it that such persons time and again succeed in convincing the community with their tales? Because those researchers are very naïve; they are not familiar with the methodology as to how the government promotes disinformation.”

One example of these techniques was unveiled by one of the highest ranking KGB officers ever to defect to the West: Oleg Gordievsky. He argued that it was the KGB that had promoted the story that AIDS had escaped out of a military biological warfare facility in the US. It was a highly successful “leak”, which circulated in conspiracy circles for many years… even eight years after Gordievsky revelation and the successive Soviet apology, the story continued to convince people…

The government’s attitude towards the UFO phenomenon was largely due to the conclusions of the Robertson Panel, which in 1953 concluded that the two largest UFO groups, the Aerial Phenomena Research Organisation (APRO) and Civilian Saucer Intelligence, had to be monitored. Why? “Because of the potentially huge influence they could exercise on the ideas of the public, if UFO sightings became common place.”
It would take until the 1960s before NICAP, the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena, became what seemed like a hobby club of the CIA. It is difficult not to conclude that the CIA was running NICAP.

But first, let us return to APRO. Roger Harkins, a journalist for the Boulder Daily Camera, wanted to know whether or not the government was indeed censuring UFO stories – as the story went. When the Associated Press Agency in Denver asked him to write a story about an upcoming UFO lecture, he followed the initial story with a second article, in which he linked the CIA with UFOs. Jim Lorenzen, president of APRO, had given Harkins seven reasons as to why the CIA would be interested in UFOs. It was Harkins contention that the CIA would want to stop his article, and that the Associated Press would allow this. Thus, he handed in his article at AP and left for the newspaper’s offices, waiting until his article would come through the teletyper. He waited for more than a day – without the article ever appearing. It is positive proof that material was read and often stopped – a censure was in place.

It has since become public knowledge that the CIA and other agencies tried or asked to place their agents in major news organisations, to either apply pressure so that certain stories would not run, or just to censure certain stories – at worst put a favourable spin on a story if it could not be stopped. Media specialists have equally confirmed how television and major newspapers mainly relied on what the telex fed them. When decades later the Belgian government held a press conference on the UFO phenomenon, American newspapers did not report as the story was not carried. During the study at the University of Colorado, the psychologist of the team, David Saunders, stated that the CIA was present everywhere. According to Saunders, they were the support behind Eduard Condon, chairman of the committee to investigate the UFO phenomenon, who has been largely responsible for the government’s negative attitude towards the phenomenon. When Saunders tried to make a memo public in which it stated that it was committee business to discredit the UFO witness rather than the phenomenon, Saunders was immediately fired, for “disobeying orders”.

NICAP was founded by space expert T. Townsend Brown in October 1956. Brown was a well-respected scientist on “free energy” who believed that the UFO phenomenon might teach him certain things. The intent of NICAP was to bring a serious note into the UFO phenomenon, which was more like a gossip column than an instrument of scientific research. And NICAP had to be run as any company would be.

The official papers of NICAP listed two CIA employees. But in the 1950s, the public profile of the CIA was totally different from what it be in following decades: it was a respected organisation, and so were its members. Nicholas de Rochefort, member of the CIA Psychological Warfare Department, was made vice-president of NICAP in late 1956; Bernard J.O. Carvalho became president of the member committee.

Carvalho was often used as the go-between for private companies owned or run by the CIA, such as Fairway Corporation, an airline company used by the heads of the CIA.

In 1957, it was nevertheless remarkable that Roscoe Hillenkoetter, the first Director of Central Intelligence (1947-1950) was selected as a member of the board of the UFO organisation. Hillenkoeter stated that “no matter what” the truth about UFOs had to be uncovered.

In 1957, Colonel Joseph Bryan III became member of the board. Between 1947 and 1953, Bryan had been the founder and head of the Psychological Warfare Staff at the CIA. He was the man who could make everyone doubt and lead them – and us – to the edge of despair by playing endless mindgames. But the game that Brown tried to play, ended quickly. Only four months into its existence, in January 1957, Brown was forced to make major changes in his organisation. If he failed to do so, he would be forced to resign – from his own creation. The financial resources of the organisation had been too major; the strategy too radical. The choice between bankruptcy or a reorganisation made the board demand for the resignation of Brown. And so happened the following day. Donald Keyhoe thus became the new chairman.

Keyhoe himself was “asked” to leave in 1969 and it was Bryan himself who became the new chairman. Bryan always refused to admit he was involved in Keyhoe’s resignation, but the files of NICAP clearly reveal that he was involved.

Bryan’s job description at the CIA meant that he had and knew how to play the media. Together with Time reporter Charles J.V. Murphy, Bryan toured Europe, a propaganda effort that brought him into direct contact with many important publishers and politicians.

NICAP once again drifted into financial troubles when the University of Colorado published its result. It was this report that put the UFO phenomenon in a very negative daylight. Under its chairman John L. Acuff, NICAP’s financial situation became disastrous. The reason was very simple: Acuff diverted most of the funds that entered the organisation to his private account. When it was discovered that Acuff had sold the membership list to the American Nazi Party, its ranks dwindled further. Once no more money was left, Acuff unsurprisingly left, to be replaced by Alan N. Hall. Hall was another former employee of the CIA.
In 1961, when Keyhoe was in charge of the organisation, NICAP was the largest UFO organisation around. It was in September that Betty & Barney Hill believed they had been abducted. Betty came across one of Keyhoe’s books in her local library and decided to write to him. NICAP receive more than 40,000 letters per year (about a hundred per day), but this single letter nevertheless made its way quickly to the attention of Keyhoe. A few days afterwards, Keyhoe was lunching with Robert Hohman and C.D. Jackson, a former advisor to President Dwight Eisenhower. Jackson advised on Cold War strategy and also co-operated with Henry Luce for Time-Life. Hohman and Jackson stated that they were working on an article discussing the alleged extraterrestrial contacts of Nicola Tesla, David Todd and Marconi. Keyhoe on his part spoke about the letter he had received from the Hills.

A month after the alleged abduction, Walter Webb, a NICAP researcher, visited the Hills. Shortly later, Hohman and Jackson request an interview, which is granted. It would last twelve hours, at which time the two writers believe the Hills have had a period of “missing time” around the time of the abduction. They believe that this could be recovered by using hypnosis. Within the space of half a day, these two gentlemen had thus defined the classic abduction phenomenon, as well as its salvation: hypnosis.

The incident poses some questions: Hohman and Jackson are speaking about a “major electronics firm” that would be interested in their story about extraterrestrial contacts… but they never mention it, nor does anything ever seem to have happened afterwards. Furthermore, when they introduce themselves to the Hills, the two gentlemen give another reason: they are doing research into the origins of those ships, in accordance with existing scientific theories, specifically those proposed by Hermann Oberth, the father of the V2 rockets. But they fail to mention for whom they are doing this research. In short, the stories seem to be fabricated and as we are not confronted with two choir boys or charlatans, it suggests they were hiding their true motives; given their background, this would suggest an alliance with certain sections of the intelligence community.

In 1973, Keyhoe published Aliens From Space, in which he stated that the two gentlemen on occasion “helped” NICAP. But in John Fuller’s book on the Hill abduction, a different story emerges. Hohman and Jackson are described as independent researchers, who are interested in the Hills because of the story they have to submit to their editor. Fuller was furthermore made aware of this item of information in a confidential meeting at NICAP. We can only wonder why their involvement and the explanation of their involvement had to be treated with so much care.

When Jacques Vallee published Messengers of Deception in 1979, he stated that Keyhoe had bragged when he wrote that he had forced the government to go public with certain material. Keyhoe, he argued, was a puppet in a game played by the Psychological Warfare division of the CIA. NICAP and other UFO organisation were players in the same game, controlled by the CIA puppet masters. It is clear that Messengers of Deception did not become a bestsellers with UFO researchers – very little has changed since its publication, even though Vallee’s reputation remained largely that of a man whose opinion was respected.

NICAP was not unique. The first president of CUFOS, the Center for UFO Studies, was Sherm Larson, a member of the Counter Intelligence Corps. The ideal employee of that organisation is often described as “the most suspicious, incredulous, unreasonable, pathetic, inhuman, sadistic bastard in every language”. That “sort of person” somehow came to lead a major UFO organisation? By coincidence?

What does this type of infiltration mean? According to Todd Zechel, who carefully researched NICAP’s history, the conclusion is simple: to conclude we are confronted with a conspiracy is either to make an all too easy conclusion, or state the obvious.
