SPIDER-MAN Reboot Costume Images

SPIDER-MAN Reboot Costume Images

The more I see of the new Spider-Man costume, the less I like it. Granted, I need to see how it performs in action, but these new set photos don’t bode well for the final picture. The costume makes Spidey look like a cross between an extra-terrestrial and venetian blinds. Of course it’s likely that some CG work will be done on it between now and release so I don’t want to be too harsh on the design. However, I’m baffled as to why Spider-Man’s junk looks like it’s rotting off.
We also have a good look at the spider emblem on Spidey’s back. Like the spider on the front of the costume, the designer clearly thought “Spiders’ legs are gigantic. Let’s do something with that.” Hit the jump to check out new images of the costume. Marc Webb’s untitled Spider-Man reboot stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, and Rhys Ifans. It’s due out in 3D on July 3, 2012.

Still looks lame city minus web shooters. God help us all.

These pictures, especially the third and fourth ones down are absolutely begging for captions, but I do have to agree, all of the set pictures wer’re seeing makes the suit look awful.
It’s no secret that I think this whole project is nothing more than a cynical excuse for Sony to hold onto the Spider-Man rights for a few more year, but I will admit that the casting seems to be pretty good, and the official first image of the new Spider Suit did look kinda cool, so I’m going to give them the benefit of the doubt in terms of costuming and just assume that it’ll look a lot better in the final movie.

Why the third and fourth IOL?
  4. riseROBOTSrise
    That’s just wrong.

Movie Executive 1: The costume for Spider-Man in the first movie was almost perfect. How can we completely ruin it?
Movie Executive 2: I know. How about this design?

THIS FRANCHISE IS HUNGRY FOR GREATNESS! This is the time to rebuild the franchise. They should utilise the villains in this new film series that weren’t included in the previous films such as Beetle (Abner Jenkins), Carnage, Chameleon, Electro, Enforcers, Hammerhead, Hobgoblin, Hydro-Man, Jackal, Kingpin, Kraven the Hunter, Lizard, Morbius, Mysterio, Rhino, Scorpion, Shocker, Silvermane, Spot, Tinkerer, Tombstone, Vulture.
Mary-Jane Watson has been a love interest in every Spider-Man film. That must change. They should include the following love interests and leave Mary-Jane Watson out of the films for at least a while:
Liz Allan, Betty Brant, Gwen Stacy, Debra Whitman, April Maye, Michele Gonzales, Jean DeWolff, Jessica Drew, Lisa Skye, Marcy Kane, Angelica Jones, Felicia Hardy, Sarah Rushman, Carlie Cooper, Norah Winters.
This is a second chance to get it right. This is an opportunity.

While I don’t necessarily disagree, your post would have been a lot less tl;dr without all that listing. We get it, the new films need different villains and another love interest, but you didn’t need to go all Wikipedia about it.

You can see why Spidey’s cod-piece is rotten….he’s getting his other
    “web-shooter” waxed by the Man-in-Black!!!
  8. Bob
I was going to say, “Not Gay Enough!” (Thanks Norm MacDonald) but then I saw the pic of him humping the PA’s face, I thought, “Now that’s the right amount of gay”.
  9. Yahzee Skellington
That Spider-Guy costume makes Peter “Emo” Parker from Spider-Man 3 look like a man…
“Sam, if you won’t do it our way, we’ll find someone who’s capable to gay this up a little”
  10. Aldo Raine
looks like a porn movie and btw, spider man came from other planet?
  11. Mike
Collider is 100% correct on this one, the costume looks like it was made for a B-movie with a sub-$1 million budget.
Anyway, there was nothing wrong with the costume on the previous Spider-man movies.
Why reboot anyway, as Spider-man 3 made $890,871,626 worldwide? Those numbers say that the viewing public want more of the same, not something completely different.
    • TotalBuzzkill
Actually, the only reasons why Spider-Man 3 did so well in the theatres was because it was living off the hype from the first two movies and it featured Venom.
Allot of Raimi fans like to forget that movie did poorly when it was released on DVD. Thus the reason why Sony dropped plans for releasing the extended cut of Spider-Man 3.
      • SaltyNuts
Uh. $900m is A LOT of f*cking money, by anyone’s standards. DVD sales, be damned. That’s still record-breaking BO, there. From the looks of it, this movie will be lucky to gross $90m.
      • Ted
Yep, that’s how I got my copy of Spider-Man 3; picked it out of the five dollar bin at Wal-Mart a week after it came out. Talk about a successful movie!
      • solidgould
I bought The Dark Knight in a dollar bin, does that mean it wasn’t successful?!
  12. SaltyNuts
Spider-Tween! What the hell?! He looks like he’s moaning in one photo and going to a rave in the next?! And, Jesus, I feel bad for the costume designer that had to rub black soot all over Spider-Tween’s crotch.
  13. Jay
There is no greater Internet cliché than whinnying about costumes. It makes me feel embarrassed for the geek community. Shut. The fuck. Up. Wait till the movie comes out. Learn the fucking lesson that practically every superhero movie should have taught you by now. In-Production snaps/effects etc rarely reflect the final product. Stop bleating. And Matt, your snark is making you sound more and more like Devin. I’m almost positive you really, really don’t want to sound like Devin. Tone it down, campadre.
    • Dan
JAY: It maybe an ‘internet cliche’ to diss the costume but it does look terrible, even though these are production snaps I don’t think even ILM are that good to make the suit look deceit.
I would agree with you in that we should wait for an explanation but I can’t see a solid reason for this filth, to be honest if they went really old skool with the suit made it less fancy (away from the FANTASTIC skillz of James Echeson’s version for the Raimi films) I’d prefer that to what Marc Webb gave the OK.
I CANNOT understand why reboot the series, great critical acclaim (apart from the last one), great box-office. WHY!!!
  14. Rockslide
I’m excited for the movie for the casting and director, but I agree that that costume is horrible.
I really have no clue who or why they would have approved this current garbage. Spider-Man has one of the best costumes in all of hero-dom, why even attempt to reinvent it? I really hope the film has a good explanation for the suit.
If Nick Fury just hands it to him, I can understand, but the only other explanation seems to be that he stole it from a German techno club during Space-Rave night.
  15. Phoenix
Loathe as I am to defend this completely pointless film, I expect even Bale’s batsuit looks rubbish when it isn’t lit and photographed properly. These are flat, amateurish spy photos. When we’ve seen some graded official footage of this and it still looks awful, then we can complain a bit more.
I must say that although a lot of comics fanboys like to lay into poor old Sam Raimi – in need of a scapegoat and completely oblivious the realities of working on a committee-led studio movie – even they must surely realise he did a good job with the suit on his films?
    • Stranger34
Of course allot of comic book fanboys are going to blame “…poor old Sam Raimi…” it would be stupid to think otherwise. After all, he was the director and he was the man calling (most) of the shots…
      • TedDiBiassi
You’re an idiot! Sam Raimi single-handedly revived the ‘comic-book’ movie and sheperded the critically and commercially successful Spider-Man films to a boxoffice gross of over $3.5 BILLION!! Not to mention he made Evil Dead and Darkman! You need to shut the f*ck up with your no-accomplishment ass and show The Raimi some f*cking respect.
      • Salander
Yikes, somebody need to chill pill. TedDiBiassi, you just completely missunderstood the poster’s comment.
What he or she ment was that people are going to point fingers at the director, since they are the ones in charge of making a good movie. So when a film turns out to be a piece of crap, it’s not the studio’s fault nor is it the cast or crew, the fault lies in the hands of the director’s.
If you reread the post, The poster said nothing that could be deemed disrespectful towards Raimi.

“The more I see of the new Spider-Man costume, the less I like it.”
    Couldn’t agree more.
  17. MC ATTAck
if i was on fire and that guy came to save me, i’ll say keep walking dude i am fine!
  18. Migz13
They definitely used that design study Alex Ross made for the original raimi trilogy. It has that dark shiny lens and that over-all toned down look.
hmm… my feelings for this one is a mixed bag. Have to see at least a decent trailer for this to get judged fairly:P
  19. Alex-mansy
I pity you Spiderman fans, get ready to be emasculated.
  20. Wladi
U-B-E-R C-R-A-P ….this remake gonna bombed for sure…only good think: the web shooters….
  21. UkiyaSeed
*Sees all the pictures* WTF IS THIS S***?!
  22. wilford brimley
WHY THE FUCK IS IT EMPHASIZING THE CROCH WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THEM ITS FUCKING RETARDED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  23. Anthony Leathley
This Suit does look naff but I guaranty it will be enhanced in the movie! I dig the suit design but the eyes just spoil if for me! I guess there is a reason, they wanted to keep it simple because Peter Parker makes his own suit and I very much doubt that he is able to manufacture Oakley lenses like in the other movies, the suit is good in the last 3 movies but over complicated for someone with no experience in sewing and making clothes!!!!!
    Who agrees??????
  24. Ketwes
You know what the funny thing is? With all the hate this re-boot is receiving, I bet it’ll receive twice the views of all the previous Spider-Man movies. Don’t get me wrong, the way the suit looks in these pictures sucks, but everybody that thinks this movie is gonna blow will go see it the day it comes out. I mean think about it, the more haters this movie gets, the more people will go to see it just to see how bad it really is.
  25. Erik
For those who are saying “wait until the movie comes out..” and “these are just ‘set pics’…” So what….. It doesnt change the fact that the design of the costume sucks bigtime. He looks like hes wearing a spiderman themed motocross suit. No belt line? Just a huge crotch area….and why is the crotch blackened?? Not even Panavision movie film can save this Captain Homo suit.
  26. Kyle Rojewski
This looks terrible. Compared to the original Spider-Man movie, this looks like absolute shit.
  27. scm
Wanna hang with total losers?! Go to an internet message board! You won’t be let down!
  28. gerard
what in the hell,… im sorry,… i’ll try to put this in a nicer way,… what in the…..hell, wow,… really just wow would u change the costume, i mean come on really that,… ok at least have him wearing the true costume and then make a second movie were he wears that terrible costume in the end, but really that just looks, i don’t have a word, and whats with spiderman trying to put his **** in that guys mouth really
  29. Evilgreenranger7
I don’t what to say but this costume looks wrong. This costume is not original to the comic
They really need to keep the old one in the first 3 movies with Tobey. I’m extremely ticked off but laughing my *** off right now
  30. Danny Duignan
I wants to know who was the idiot artist who made the Spider-Man Reboot suit; it’s crappy and doesn’t look anything like the comics. Don’t hang the art, if anything you should hang the artist . . .
    Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man kicks ass!
    Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man sucks ass!
Amazing how changing one word makes it good or bad (kicks ass = it rocks, sucks ass = it sucks)
What’s even worse is that the suit is gray around “his junk”. Seriously, no one wants to see that.
President Garfield didn’t stay more than a year in office . . . Maybe Spider-Garfield won’t get enough good reviews to get past the first movie.
  31. K T
I’ve always felt there’s something vaguely homoerotic about Spiderman. Many of the poses you find him in are just so… suggestive. So the above photos seem entirely in character. :P
  32. Lyle
I think i’m gonna throw up! No one can replace Tobey he is truth.garfield should go eat his lasange(fat ass)
  33. Simon
Reminds me of the Nicholas Hammond costume from the camp 70′s TV show. Maybe that one was better than this as at least the crotch was clean!
  34. Johnny Bravo
Seriously? WTF is with that costume? And no Tobey Maguire? Wow Sony, you are in deep deep trouble here. Quit while you’re still raking in the bucks from the last 3…..wont go see the next crapola you have in store to rip off the public with. Signed,
    Disappointed
  35. kp
    It’s his 90s Ben Reilly costume + Kick-Ass influence!!
  36. Matt
    This is awful!!!!
  37. Rachael
Personally, I don’t the suit is that bad. True its not perfect, and don’t compare to the Toby Maguire costume used in the other three films but that was the point. They didn’t want to follow in Raimi’s footsteps so the made the costum more traditional to the comic universe. As for the blackening crotch, the material could just be see through and we are just seeing his underwear. I don’t know, just a guess. Either way it doesn’t make the suit look the best but I don’t doubt that it will look a lot better when the film finally comes out.
  38. likeucare
Absolute crap. Hate it. Hate the lead actor, will not watch this. Somewhere Sam Ramii is laughing his ass off.Or crying.
  39. Paul
    About the suit
The closest analogy I can come up with is an Alien/Human autopsy. There’s something so sickening about the chunks of red here that it looks like skin has been torn away from muscle — or maybe Spidy as burn victim? The darkened crotch just adds to the gross-out factor.
    Reboot
I think Rami did an excellent job on the first two Spidy adventures, and they will stand the test of time. Suit sucks – strike one. Casting is not as strong – strike 2. Story is starting at beginning again – strike 3. This one will crash and burn, Mav.
