Update on the AAE - DoC requests that logo be removed | New Zealand Taxpayers' Union

Further to our questions about whether or not DoC is a supporter of
the Australasian Antarctic Expedition (the scientific expedition that
got stuck in the ice recently), yesterday we received another letter
from DoC confirming that DoC has not supported the AAE. It states that
DoC has now asked the AAE for its logo to be removed from the
expedition's website.

New Details on the Ship of Fools « Climate Audit

The precise chronology of the Ship of Fools on December 23 has been a topic of interest on skeptic blogs, including my recent post demonstrating the falsity of Turney’s excuses. However, up to today,
this chronology had received zero media coverage, despite severalreporters from major media on the Ship of Fools.

Today, there are two stories (BBC and Sydney Morning Herald , both of which contain damning information (especially the latter.) Note embedded link in latter article h/t Bob Koss, with important details not reported in the main article.

Here are new details on the day’s chronology.

Oh Noes! More DoooooooOOOOMMMM! OR something.

In today's Money Morning: why 2013 could be a big one for gold...and the best way to buy it...Stopping the house of cards folding...A big year for gold?...Insights on investing in gold... Brightest comet in 333 years to signal a major rally in gold? You are in for a celestial treat in 2013. Later this year, the brightest comet for 333 years will pass right by our planet. Comet 'Ison' is expected to blaze brighter than the moon. And if that's really the case, it will be visible even during the daytime. Two Russian astronomers, Vitali Nevski and Artyom Novichonok, spotted Ison last year. Let's hope their calculations are correct, and that Ison isn't in fact headed for planet Earth instead! At fifty kilometres in diameter it would make a bit of an impact, and probably prove the Mayans right — if a year late! Ison will appear in the sky in November, and will still be visible through to next January. So be sure to put Ison in your calendar For thousands of years, many civilisations have seen comets as signals for major events. The bible talks of comets portending the Exodus, the first Passover and destruction of the temple. More recently, the famous 'Halley's comet' swung by just before World War One. On its next circuit it passed us just before the Persian Gulf War. So if Comet Ison is forecast to be the most spectacular comet in 333 years, then what on earth could 2013 have in store for us, and importantly the markets? I'll leave the grand predictions based on orbiting bodies to Mystic Meg and friends. And for my money, I'd simply predict more of the same from the markets this year. That is: more central bank meddling, more volatility, and yet more 'muddle-through'. StumbleUpon

1939

1938 wanted to kid itself that it was going to cruise all the way to 1950 just because full scale global war didn't erupt in 1937.

And here we are. In 1939.

So what do the next 27,000 years hold for us?

Take a look back to see what's ahead.

At the beginning of the previous aeon, both dinosaurs and a primitive hominid coexisted quite happily.

However just around the corner was an event- still unclear- which set the tone for the whole 27,000 year spree.

From that basic furry human stock came neanderthal, cro magnon, alien-interfered point heads, and the whole real tree of the human race from faerie to pixie to halfling to human to ogre to troll to giant.

Then came the cataclysms- three in that span of time- to burn, flood and destroy with wild animals all that had been.

And here we are right at the start of the same carnage all over again!

Enjoy.

Jenna Louise-Coleman: Is New ‘Doctor Who’ Companion Playing An Alien? « Read Movie Reviews Before Theater

Jenna Louise-Coleman: Is New ‘Doctor Who’ Companion Playing An Alien?

‘Doctor Who’ has found his newest companion in 25 year old Jenna Louise-Coleman, a British actress best known for her role in the popular soap opera ‘Emmerdale’.

Coleman beat out hundreds of hopefuls to replace Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill, who played marriage Amy Pond and Rory Williams, in the hit sci-fi television series.

Gillan and Darvill will “bow out of the show in a heartbreaking departure after one final series of rollercoaster voyages,” according to a BBC statement. Their last episode will be the fifth in the series where they will have to battle the Weeping Angels with fatal consequences.
Coleman rose to fame after starring as teen lesbian Jasmine Thomas in ‘Em merdale’ and rowdy sixth form pupil Lindsey James in ‘Waterloo Road.’ She can be seen in the new forthcoming British drama about the Titanic as Annie Desmond.

Coleman will join Matt Smith – who plays the 11th incarnation of the Time Lord – in the upcoming seventh series.

“It always seems impossible when you start casting these parts, but when we saw Matt and Jenna together we knew we had our girl,” said Steven Moffat, lead writer and co-executive producer of the series. “She’s funny and clever and exactly mad enough to step on board the TARDIS”.

“Matt Smith did my audition with me,” Coleman said when asked about the audition process. “It was fun and I felt like we were in it together”.

The actress will be introduced in the 2012 Christmas special in a “very, very different way for the Doctor to meet his new friend” according to Moffat. Remaining ever tight-lipped, he did drop some hints on what the new character will be like.

“It’s not often the Doctor meets someone who can talk even faster than he does, but it’s about to happen,” said Moffat. “Jenna is going to lead him his merriest dance yet. And that’s all you ‘re getting for now”.

At least this is a circuit breaker for the uptick in negativity about Aeon Moffat. As justified as the wangst might be we need a break from "please don't fuck the show up" "please don't cast a gollywog doctor" "please don't cast a woman doctor" "not as good as it used to be" StumbleUpon
