Nick Cater has gone to the heart of the malaise in what passes for journalism in so much of Australia's media.
A great example of the phenomenon he describes is the Abbott government's refusal to do journalists jobs for them on the issue of boat arrivals. We're untroubled on this website by any change because we have always had multiple sources of direct eye-witness accounts, most significantly from Shaz. Yet the bleating from other quarters about secrecy etc has become their main story. Do your job!
