Lateline - 17/05/2012: People will see through Abbott: Combet
There's one thing about it though I'd just like to say so that I clear up some misconceptions. The $23 price is the nominal price for the carbon units when the scheme starts on 1st July, but in important industries that are internationally exposed, that are trade exposed and that are emissions intensive, the effective carbon price is an actually only an average of $1.30 a tonne and that's because we'll be issuing to those industries like steel or aluminium smelting around 95 per cent of their permits for free and the average carbon price they'll face is only $1.30.
Not only will the socialist regime pick and choose the winners in the wealth redistribution, they will also choose which industries to destroy or strangle, and will finally also be undermining their new fiat currency valuation by arbitrarily now setting a market price of AUD 1.30 based on some supposed discounting due to the number of "free" permits in the millions.
This will make normal trading, especially the forward contracts that so far are the only viable means of getting projects up and running other than government sponsored projects with their handouts, utterly impossible.
