Uni Canberra’s FOI farce - The Common Room Blog | The Australian
the sad reality is that most public affairs graduates who stay in Canberra will end up in the bureaucracy, where they will labour mightily writing media releases nobody reads and stopping anything that will embarrass ministers or mandarins being released.
This certainly also explains the University’s hopeless handling of its own FOI issue – maybe it’s a future case study for the course.
The University’s behaviour is an excellent example of the two fundamental rules of bureaucratic media management.
First, anybody asking questions is an enemy.
Second, it does not matter how stupidly secretive you make the organisation look. The essential thing is to admit nothing and release nothing.
IF there is one way to ensure public sector employers want to hire UC public affairs graduates the University’s present strategy is it.
