I think I finally get it! The tone, the sense of achievement in Jason Clare's boat people anouncements - Michael Smith News

If we must have an announcement about each illegal boat arrival, why doesn't the Minister say something like this:

Another leaky wooden boat penetrated Australia's defences today and made its way into our territorial waters.   There were 167 illegal entrants on board, they all claimed asylum, that means that 167 poor buggers in the camps miss out because these cashed up queue jumpers took their spots.

Each of the illegal arrivals on this boat paid $10,000 in cash to a people smuggler - that means that organised pan-regional crime syndicates have another $1.67 million just from this one boat to finance their criminal and suspected terrorist activities.

The people who've arrived illegally on this boat will cost us all about $20 million in housing, processing and welfare costs.

More than 94% of the people on board this boat will be on Australian taxpayer provided welfare payments as their sole income for the next 5 years. Australia is worse of today than it was yesterday because of this arrival.
